Central bank interest rates by country
The policy rate is the rate a central bank sets to steer borrowing costs, inflation and the currency. Rising rates usually weigh on stocks that depend on cheap money and help banks; falling rates usually do the opposite. Click a column header to sort.

How this page is built
Most rates come from the Bank for International Settlements, which publishes the daily policy rate of 38 central banks, and the US figures from the New York Fed. Both refresh every night. 5 central banks the BIS does not cover are checked by hand against the bank's own decisions and news reports; they show the date they were last checked, and hover text on "checked by hand" gives the latest decision. "Last change" is the size and date of the latest move since 2021; "12-month move" compares with the rate a year earlier. The US figure is the middle of the Fed's target range; the exact range is above. Euro-area countries share the European Central Bank's rate. A rate in this table is a headline policy rate, not what a household pays on a loan.
