Walk-forward back-test: the model was re-run every 21 trading days using only the data available that day, for every asset, and we counted how often the later outcome fell inside each range. Targets are 50%, 80% and 90%. The raw 80% range was too narrow for stocks and indices over long horizons, so those ranges are widened by the factor shown, fitted once on these same results, which means the "held" columns are partly in-sample. Tests overlap for long horizons.

Live record since the first stored snapshot on 5 Oct 2026: no forecast has reached its horizon yet: the first 1-week results arrive within days.

How it works

For each market we measure today's volatility, look at how far the price moved over the same horizon in every past period measured in units of the volatility at the start, and apply the ten-year distribution of those outcomes to today's price. This keeps the fat tails and skew of real markets instead of assuming a bell curve. Currencies and commodities are centred on today's price; the few currencies that have trended steadily (Indian rupee, Pakistani rupee, Turkish lira) are centred on their three-year pace; stocks and indices keep their historical drift.

It cannot see news, earnings, central-bank decisions or regime changes, and ranges can be wider than they look when a market is calm and about to become volatile. Frequently asked questions

What are these forecasts?

For each currency pair, commodity, stock index and S&P 500 stock we show a probability range for the price over the next week, month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months, plus the end of this year and next. The ranges come from how far prices have actually moved in the past, scaled to how volatile each market is today.

Are they price targets?

No. A target is a single number from an opinion. A range says how much could plausibly happen and how likely each outcome is. The median is simply the centre of the range and is not a call to buy or sell.

How do I know the ranges are any good?

Every page shows a walk-forward back-test: the model is re-run at past dates using only the data available then, and we count how often the later outcome landed inside the 50%, 80% and 90% ranges. A well-calibrated forecast scores about 50%, 80% and 90%. We also store every forecast weekly and report the live hit rate as outcomes arrive.

Why not just predict the direction?

Short-term direction is close to unpredictable for liquid markets, and most published point forecasts are not tested. Ranges are honest about that uncertainty and are useful for sizing risk, judging whether a move is unusual and seeing what a target level would require.
